The local cuisine of the Algarve is characterized by the smell of fresh herbs picked in the hills. A popular dish in the autumn months is wild rabbit in wine.
Furthermore, chicken fried with garlic (possibly made with spicy piri piri), chickpeas with eggs, lamb stew and a lot of ‘sobremesas’ (sweets especially made from almonds, figes and alfarroba) are well-known on the dining tables.
Fresh fish is abundantly used in many different dishes. Populair is the cod fish, there are more than 350 recepis! Good wines are served everywhere.
