São Brás de Alportel region organises several weekly markets.
In almost every town there is the saterday morning market with local products such as meat, fish, vegetables, herbs and fruit. Loulé (10 minutes by car) is a real winner with a big market every Saturday morning. The market takes place in an old, beautifully renovated hall. In São Brás de Alportel is a nice but smaller market.
Weekly there are also so called gipsy markets. Every week there is a gipsy market in another town, where you can buy clothes, tools, jewelry, bags, watches, souvenirs, plants, fruit, vegetables and so on. You find here the big barbecues with grilled chicken (frango piri piri). Not for take away but to eat just on the spot on a small simple terrace!
There are also weekly flea markets where you can find all sorts of things and sometimes some beautiful antiques.
Here are just a few of the many markets that take place in the area:
Carnaval (Terça-Feira de Carnaval)
Corpus Christi (Corpo de Deus)
The Algarve also has cultural events for everyone. The so-called 365 Algarve cultural program has hundreds of music, theater and dance performances as well as exhibitions, etc. There are two beautiful theaters in Faro and one in Loulé.
